The longest solar eclipse of the 21st century took place on July 22, 2009. The Moon's shadow swept across India, China, parts of Japan and the Pacific Ocean, lingering in some places for as long as 6 minutes and 39 seconds. This eclipse will not be surpassed in duration until June 13, 2132.
