I've had the worst problem keeping a monitor for more than 18 months or so. That is recently.
In the old days they lasted years.

I've "stolen" my daughters monitor to type this post.

I guess no one has problems like me.

Maybe I have some harmful magic rays that zap my monitors...

I don't know how long the LCD monitors should last. The LCD TVs should last 7+ years. I would think a monitor should last just as long.

I don't know... I usually end up with a monitor after the computer breaks...

Oops I put this in the news section not the talk section... Oh well, this area is kind of slow anyway, I don't think the admin will mind.

What is weird is I guess the old one was draining my computer because since I put this borrowed on on, it sure is running faster.

I google the Samsung Syncmaster monitor.. it appears I'm not the only one.
I thought Samsung would be a good brand too!

My laptop monitor went 'red'.. It was cheaper to buy a new one than have it repaired. Current one, Inspiraon 1525, is crap compared to my old 8600. Future monitors, I would suggest you adjust all your power settings. Have it go to screen saver after a marked idle time and then have the monitor turn off after a further time. You can also adjust the % of brightness. Update drivers.

Initial question: I've never had a stand alone monitor go, just my laptop from misuse.

I notice my monitor flickers. It bugs me, but it's okay so far. My old one lasted years.
