My son plays travel hockey here in Michigan right now. Small world...

Can I ask who your granddaughters play for?

Oh yeah, go Wings! Smile

They just finished their season with Mackinaw City. In fact they won the state title for their division (U19 Tier III).

The grandson also played for Mackinaw City for the past two years (they took second place at States the year before last), and besides playing for his high school for a couple of years, he earlier played for the Northern Travelers.

Where does your son play?

Oh, wow, they're way up north! Congrats to your granddaughters on their state title!! They must be REALLY good!! Congrats to your grandson too. Second place at states is VERY impressive!

We're in Southeast Michigan, Detroit area but out in the burbs. Hockey is REALLY big here. We're in one of the largest districts in the country. My son is going to start high school next year and is really struggling with deciding if he wants to try out for the high school team or stay with his travel team. He's going to do a camp with the high school over the summer and see how it goes.

We've met a lot of great people and have some great memories from our hockey "career". I think it's a great sport for kids to be involved in.

I'm sad to say I haven't watched the wings since the first round of playoffs but it sounds like they're doing pretty good. Interesting side note: Nick Lindstrom's son is on my son's team. Nick is very shy and a real sweetheart in person. And he's ripped like you wouldn't believe! We've also bumped into Chelios around the rinks. His daughter plays on a travel team.

Hey Katie Marie .... have you seen this? I guess Dion Phaneuf and Elisha Cuthbert were vacationing in Maui. No wonder he didn't want to play for Canada at the World's! Ha. (I guess her relationship with Sean Avery of the Rangers is over?)

Thanks, lovin! It is kind of a rare treat. I always feel bad for him when he is at the rink to watch his son, as soon as people realize it's him, he is always bombarded with a crowd. The kids are so cute, they bring their sticks and pucks and ask him to sign them. Some kids even bring their soccer balls for him to sign, lol. I saw one man ask Nick to hold his baby, and he took a picture of them. That was adorable!

Wings had a good start last night. It's getting exciting!

I miss Stevie too. He was a classic, wasn't he?

I think Stevie Y is missed by all Red Wings fans. My grandkids got to meet several of the Wings when they'd have their pre-season practices in Traverse City.

My daughter's family is friends with Randy McKay, who played for the Devils, and is now an assistant coach at Michigan Tech. We also use to see Jeff Daniels (the actor) at tournaments around Michigan because his son played for a team out of Chelsea.

Sweetcheeks, I agree about the great people you get to meet hanging out at ice rinks. I've traveled all over the state, from Detroit to the Soo to Sarnia over the past 11 years and have loved every minute of it!

I was going to ask if your grandkids ever go to see any of the Wings in the pre-season. That is awesome!

I've heard that Jeff Daniels put up the funds for the ice rink in Chelsea. He also has a restaurant and built a theater there. He's done a lot for that commuity but keeps a very low profile. He's very well regarded there.

Well since all my Canadian teams are gone, I got to go for Pittsburgh cause Gary Roberts plays for them and he is from where I live now, lol. Although I do think they will have a tough time against Detroit. Smile

I'm ok with either team winning. I've been watching Syd the Kid since junior hockey and I wouldn't mind if Pittsburg won. (I also love Gary Roberts, he's my kind of player - tough, stand up, sweet guy)
I wouldn't mind if Detroit won either. Chris Chelios amazes me! He's a rock hard 46 year old playing hard in a young man's game. I admire the dedication, hard work and perseverance it must take to be able to play at the top level for so long. I laughed during the Colorado/Detroit series. According to one of the announcers who was at ice level, Milan Hejduk had been chirping at Chelios all shift and Chelli finally body slammed him into the boards and said "Save your breath kid, I've heard it all before." Gotta love the guy.

He was my favorite player for a long time. He's not bad to look at either!

Wow .... the Wings were dominate from the middle of the second period on. What happened to the Pittsburg defense? They looked like pilons out there. Rock on Detroit.

Wow - another dominating performance by Detroit. Pittsburg's forwards had lousy gap control all night. Detroit's speed has them backing off too soon and not supporting their defensemen on the outlet pass and the Detroit forecheck had Pittsburg handling the puck like nervous virgins. I'm pulling for Detroit but I hope Pittsburg can regroup and at least make a series out of it. They sure looked disheartened on the bench during the third period but the scrum at the end might get their competitive spirits going again. Had to smile at Gary Roberts (age 42!) jumping into the skirmish. Whatta guy!
