From Emmy Award winners John Wells, Ann Biderman and Chris Chulack
comes a raw and authentic look at the police unit in Los Angeles. From
the beaches of Malibu to the streets of East Los Angeles, "Southland"
is a fast-moving drama that will take viewers inside the lives of cops,
criminals, victims and their families.
Michael Cudlitz ("A River Runs Through It") plays John Cooper a
seasoned Los Angeles cop assigned to train young rookie Ben Sherman
(Benjamin McKenzie, "The O.C."). Cooper's honest, no-nonsense approach
to the job leaves Sherman questioning whether or not he has what it
takes to become a police officer.

Cudlitz and McKenzie are joined by other cast members including
Regina King ("Ray," "Jerry Maguire") who plays Detective Lydia Adams.
Adams lives with and is the primary caregiver of her mother. Her
partner, Detective Russell Clarke (Tom Everett Scott, "Boiler Room") is
an unhappily married father of three. Michael McGrady ("The Thin Red
Line") plays Detective Daniel "Sal" Salinger. Sal oversees fellow gang
detectives Nate Moretta (Kevin Alejandro, "Drive," "Ugly Betty") and
Sammy Bryant (Shawn Hatosy, "Alpha Dog"). Arija Bareikis ("Crossing
Jordan") plays as patrol officer Chickie Brown, a single mom who dreams
of being the first woman accepted into SWAT.

Missed it but plan to watch. He has to live, doncha think?! If they start the series by knocking off TES, that would suck!

Gritty cop drama 'Southland' is close to having a second life with TNT, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The show had already completed six episodes before NBC announced that none of the second season was to air, effectively eliminating any shot the it had in gaining a stronger audience in its second season. We hypothesized that the Jay Leno Show caused 'Southland's pre-mature demise, but NBC maintains that it was too dark a program for the network.

Should the deal go through, 'Southland' would join the cop family of 'The Closer' and 'Dark Blue,' with the former being the number one show in TNT's arsenal. Pair up 'Southland' with 'The Closer,' and that could be a solid two-hour block of television.

With its debut in April 2009, 'Southland' started out strong, garnering 9 million viewers a week for the first two episodes. It struggled to maintain those numbers through the subsequent five episodes -- but had enough bang to warrant a 13-episode second-season order. Whether or not all 13 episodes (or more) will be filmed is yet to be determined, but it's probably safe to assume that if TNT is willing to invest in the initial six, they like what they've seen so far.

Oh I hope TNT picks it up. I was sad when I read NBC had cancelled it. I liked the show.
