...If you don't watch this series, here is our message of tough love: The last prestrike episode of Friday Night Lights airs tomorrow (Friday) at 9 p.m. on NBC. And if you don't watch, and tell everyone you know to watch, it's possible the series will be canceled and you will loathe yourself later when you realize how great this show was, and that you are partly responsible for its demise. We want to save you from that suffering! We want to save you from yourself!
You may be asking, "If this show is so good, why is it in danger of getting the boot?" Well, fans of this series know that Friday Night Lights is one of the best-written and best-acted productions ever to grace the small screen; however, due to a lack of support from the Peacock network (these quotes from NBC president Ben Silverman will make you shudder) and nightmare time slots (first against American Idol and now in the kiss-of-death slot on Fridays), this series has yet to garner the massive audience it so richly deserves.
(Further evidence of crap timeslot: According to Nielsen reports, Friday Night Lights scored the third-biggest jump of all prime-time series in its "live" audience vs. DVR playback within a week: about 38 percent. The fans just aren't home on Friday nights.)
So where do things stand? Reps for NBC Universal Television confirm that while the original order for the current FNL season was for 22 episodes, and they have only shot 15, the future of the series has yet to be determined. "The first question is whether they will finish out the seven episodes of this season," says a studio rep. "Which will be decided after we know when the strike will end. And then the second question is whether they will get picked up for a third season, which we will find out in May."
Other Peacock-net-savvy insiders are saying more alarming things—spanning from "I hear it definitely won't be back this season" to "I hear it definitely won't be back at all."
We say, nonsense! Even if the worst-case-scenario were true, Lazarus raised the dead, CBS saved Jericho, and Family Guy found a second life, too. So, we're keeping hope alive, and here's what you can do...
I don't know if a few extra people watching tonight will help, but the comments from Silverman sure don't make me very hopeful. This is one of my favorite shows.

Here is the pilot episode if anyone is interested. I believe they should still be available on NBC's site and on DVD.

Press Tour Alert: 'Friday Night Lights' Exec 'Spoils' Season 3! Jul 20, 2008, 05:10 PM | by Michael Ausiello
Categories: Friday Night Lights
NBC and DirecTV just hosted a little luncheon with the cast of TV's best drama series, Friday Night Lights, and as entertaining as it was, it was nothing compared to dessert: Shortly after the press conference, exec producer Jason Katims got into a huddle with a few select journalists and basically outlined his plans for the entire third season. Warning: Major, life-altering spoilers are below!
* If you're having a tough time coping with the impending loss of Gaius Charles' Smash and Scott Porter's Jason, wait until next year: Katims reveals that Tim (Taylor Kitsch), Matt (Zach Gilford), Tyra (Adrianne Palicki) and Lyla (Minka Kelly) are all entering their senior years this season. The knowledge that this may be their final year in Dillon will "add an urgency to [their] stories, but also a nostalgia." "It will be sad to leave," says Palicki, "but I think we were all kind of prepared for that on some level."
* When the new season starts, eight months will have passed since the Season 2 finale, placing the action at the start of a new school year. Among the major developments: Tim and Lyla are now in a serious relationship. "We think it'll be a tremendously fun storyline, which could ultimately become very moving," Katims says. "It's one thing to have this passionate, secret relationship, but once they're in a real relationship, they see how different they are. They're completely an odd couple... Also, they're both seniors now, so it's really a question of, Where are they going now? Where are they headed? Lyla really tries to get Tim to be the best version of himself. (She wants him to) get into college, get a scholarship... But the question is whether these two are destined to have very different lives."
* The hiatus has not been nearly as kind to another Dillon super-couple: Tyra and Landry. "Tyra in the past eight months has [realized] that, while she loves Landry, she kind of feels like he's not really The Guy," says Katims. "So it becomes a story about, Are they going to be able to be friends? And will Landry be able to accept that?" Probably not when he meets the new Guy in her life, but more on that below.
* Matt and Julie will try and put the past behind them and become friends.
* As previously reported, Tami will be appointed the principal of Dillon High. "From the beginning, we wanted to find ways to get (Connie Britton) driving story as much as possible, and not just be the coach's wife," says Katims, adding that the new gig will lead to some serious tension at home. "Suddenly she (and Coach Taylor) may find (themselves) on opposite sides of some issues."
* Katims concedes that it was not easy placing the calls to Charles and Porter informing them that their runs on the show were coming to an end. "It was very hard to break the news to them," he admits. Smash and Jason, however, will be going out with "two of the most powerful storylines" this season. "We are not doing this in any unceremonious way. And, also, we want to very much leave the door open for both of them to come back to the show."
* A handful of new characters will be introduced, including a freshman named J.D. McCoy. "He's a phenomenal quarterback," Katims explains. "In the first arc of the season, there's a controversy over who will be the first-string quarterback for the Panthers." Additionally, an old friend of Billy Riggins' will make a play for Tyra. "He's a local rodeo star, so he's right in Tyra's wheelhouse. So Landry is not going to be (happy)."
* Matt Czuchry (Chris) and Benny Ciaramello (Santiago) will not be back.
* A renewed focus will be placed on the Landry/Matt friendship, a relationship Katims says got sidelined last season in the wake of the Landry/Tyra murder plot. "With that intense, secret thing between Landry and Tyra, we lost a little bit of Landry as Matt's buddy/sidekick/friend, and we're going to have that back."
Tim and Lyla in a serious relationship? Landry and Tyra dunzo? Tami the boss of Dillon High? An end in sight for four more characters? Surely, you guys have some thoughts about all this, right?
I loved Lyla the first year and have always loved Tim Riggins!!! I'm really glad they are getting them together. I also liked Matt & Julie together. Was never a huge fan of Tyra and Landrey.

Exclusive: Jeremy Sumpter tackles QB role on 'Friday Night Lights' Aug 12, 2008, 08:28 PM | by Dan Snierson
Categories: TV Biz
Friday Night Lights has found a rival for Matt Saracen, and it's...Peter Pan? Jeremy Sumpter, who starred in the 2003 film Peter Pan, has been cast as the recurring character J.D. McCoy, a gifted freshman quarterback who moves to Dillon with his family to try to take the starting QB job from Saracen (Zach Gilford). "J.D.’s a straight and narrow kid who’s been bred to be a football player by his father, and lives in the shadow of his father, who's a big personality," says exec producer Jason Katims. "There’s an interesting story about this kid feeling somewhat suffocated by his dad and starting to look more to Coach (Kyle Chandler) as a mentor." As EW.com previously reported, Janine Turner and D.W. Moffett will play J.D.'s parents. (In addition, Deadwood's Kim Dickens will serve as Saracen's mother, who has a tense reunion with her son.) Season 3 of FNL kicks off Oct. 1 on DirecTV, and debuts on NBC in early 2009.

You wouldn't happen to know where I could watch this online when the new season starts do you? I LOVE this show and it sucks that it won't be on NBC until next year. I can't wait that long.

I was just coming to see if you've watched it yet! I was laughing at that part too...you're a rebound from Jesus. Lila and Tim are cute, definitely have the most chemistry. It was good opener. I've missed Coach and Mrs. Coach. They're my favorites.

I heard the show wont be returning until 2009, with the exception of Direct TV subscribers who will get to see the new season later this year.

I love them too. When she said "you hate your wife right now don't you" or something like that and he said "i don't hate my wife, I hate/don't like the principal" Too funny! I wish more people would realize that this show is NOT about football.

The new season started Oct 1 on DirectTV. I don't see how this even helps the show get viewers. It returns to NBC in Jan or Feb. I can't wait that long, so I'm watching it online.

How I LOVE this show! Matt w/his grandmother breaks my heart every time. And the scene where coach walked out of Smash's house and you could hear the excitement from Smash and his family as he was walking away. I loved that scene. I really like Tim and Lyla. Not sure I like Julie and Matt together, so I hope that doesn't happen in the future.

Aw, i really liked Matt and Julie in the first season. Is it because of Julie? She is actually the only realistic teenager on the show. Just from what they chose to recap at the very beginning of the first ep, I do definitely think that is going to get rekindled.

Yeah it is because of Julie. But if it happens, I wouldn't be upset. As long as they leave Tim and Lyla together And Tyra has actually grown on me. I didn't like her first season.

Well NickelPickle looks like it's just me and you who watch this show, but that's okay! It took a few days to watch the last episode and my favorite scene was Mindy reciting her vows to Billy. Then Lyla laughing because she recognized the lines from "Finding Nemo" PRICELESS!! I liked Julie more this episode. I always enjoy and Coach and Coach's wife aka Principal and Principal's husband. They are one of the best tv couples ever!!
