I received this recipe several years ago, as part of a recipe e-zine to which I subscribed. Since, then I've made it many times. It's so easy to throw together, it tastes good, and it's something different, which is a plus in my book. The comments that came with the recipe are in italics.

Silag

One of my favorite standby recipes. I got it out of the Midwest Living Magazine. They had an article on recipes that firemen made so I tried it and it has become one of my favorites.

Brown 1lb. of ground beef with onions and green peppers (I use red peppers instead) and some salt and pepper. Add 8 oz. of sliced smoked sausage (I use more than 8 oz.). Stir in bag of frozen corn and diced potatoes. Cook over medium heat stirring occasionally so the bottom doesn't burn. When the potatoes look brown and cooked it is ready to eat.

The original recipe called for putting shredded cheddar cheese over the top just before it was done so it could melt but I forgot to do it so I just eliminate the cheese. I hope you try it. I always make a little more because my husband likes to take the leftovers in his lunch. It microwaves great.

I have to pick up some sausage but I will definitely try this. Thanks Inky.

I've been meaning to post about this, I tried the original recipe and it was yum! A couple of weeks ago I tried a variation and it turned out to be really tasty. I used what I had in my fridge/freezer, which was minced (ground) pork and chorizo sausage and I also added 1/2 tsp hot paprika and 1/2 tsp smoked paprika. I'll definitely make both versions again and I might even try adding a "splash" of red wine next time.

Thanks Inky, this is a great recipe.

I'm so glad you posted your comments, oneforthefrog! It's always nice to hear from someone who's tried the recipes. Plus, I love getting new ideas! I think I'll try chorizo next time. That sounds good.
