I used a recipe the other day that turned out so delicious I was in shock:

Easy Pot Roast

• 1 - 3 to 5 pound beef pot roast
• 1 packet Ranch Dressing Mix
• 1 packet Italian Dressing Mix
• 1 packet Brown Gravy Mix
• 1 can of Campbell’s beef broth
• 1/2 cup water

Place the roast (also 6 peeled cut potatoes, raw baby carrots and half a sliced onion) in your crock pot. Mix all other ingredients together and pour over pot roast. Cook on low setting for 8 hours.

Yield - 8 to 10 servings

I first thought this recipe was a joke but I'm a believer now. The meat was so tender it was falling apart and the flavor of the potatoes and carrots was yummy. I'm ashamed to admit that I ate so quickly I looked like a wild animal.

Does anyone know if I brown the roast before I put it in the crock pot?

inky!!! Missed you girl.
I think it's always best to brown meat first (it develops flavour) but many people don't, so I guess it's personal choice.

You are way toooooooo nice, Inky! I've never browned or seared anything in my life. Except that time when I was a little girl and got a real bad sunburn. Embarassed Razz

I did a bit of that, too, Frannie . . . back in the day. Those were the days, weren't they?

I remember falling asleep on my stomach in the backyard, while tanning, and waking up, red as a tomato on one side, white as snow on the other. Now, that was a "look." It was pretty hard to sit down for awhile, too.
Laughing

I still remember the pain to this day. I was in 2nd grade and I had blisters on my back. The doctor took me out of school for a week. I felt sorry for my mom. She had to listen to me whine and cry. Embarassed

I am going to try this again today. Last time, I cooked it on high for part of the day to cut down a couple hours of cooking time and the meat was kind of dry. I couldn't figure out if the meat was under cooked or over cooked. It was ok, but not falling apart.

You've probably figured this out by now, Moody, but what seems to work best for me is to start things out on high for just the first 30 minutes to an hour and then turn it down to low for the rest of the day. Low and slow is my motto. Laughing

Frances, you would probably be interested to know that I come back to this thread once a month to get this recipe. You would think I would have it memorized by now.

I am getting better at it. Getting moister every time. lol
