| We're going to my kid sister's for Easter dinner tomorrow and she told me that she was going to do all the cooking and give the rest of us a break. Bless her heart. I'm going to use the free time to do a bit of an experiment and attempt to make an edible fruit bouquet. Have any of you ever made one? I got a bunch of fruit and some wooden skewers at Farm Boy this morning and I'm going to try chocolate-dipped pineapple bunny shapes, cantaloupe and honeydew shapes and grapes, blackberries and strawberries. (I saw something like that on-line) Since I'm not using bananas, I don't have to dip anything in lemon juice, right? Wish me luck! _________________ If you act the way you'd like to be, you'll soon be the way you act - Leonard Cohen

| you should be good, they also make something you can get to put on the fruit so it does not turn, there are packets of mix and there is a spray you can get to preserve it also. take a pic and post it! |

| To keep my fruit from turning brown I use pineapple juice. It works for me like lemon juice when I dehydrate fruit or make my families favorite fresh fruit salad. Bananas stay white in the fruit salad for the main meal but when served as leftover the next meal - they are turning brown. So the fruit salad is made just to last one meal for us. _________________ Von |

| My daughter is Asst Mgr. in produce and has done fruit trays for years and has quite a following every holiday as she does them so pretty. She has done some private parties where she's done some bouquets and it seems like with the fruits you mentioned with no problem. She uses a lot of red and green curly lettuces for filler too as well as star fruit and Kiwi as finishing touches. Today she came home with a new item they carry, sliced apples in a bag that are already dipped so they don't turn. She's making a fruit tray for tomorrow with a dip she makes (mainly for the strawberries and pineapple but good on any fruit) that is delicious. Just a tray of strawberries cut in halves or quarters depending on size and this dip in a center bowl are a big hit with many. recipe... 1 8 oz. softened cream cheese 1 jar Kraft Marshmellow cream just mix together well and serve in a side dish. ETA...for tomorrow she made double the recipe for 4 large containers of strawberries and 2 pineapples cut up ( the apples are for my grnadson who loves the dip but is allergic to strawberries lol!) _________________ Moderator Our judgments judge us, and nothing reveals us, exposes our weaknesses, more ingeniously than the attitude of pronouncing upon others... | I just talked to my daughter this morning about this so this may be a little late but she says the main problem with making the bouquets for her was the container and base the skewers were put into as they tend to fall from the weight so she uses a head of cabbage that fits tightly into the container to keep the skewers in place instead of florist foam.. You may need to start the holes the skewers go into with a hammer and a nail about the same or little smaller circumference of the skewers. My thought would be even something with a tough outer skin like a cantaloupe half or honeydew half inverted in a container would support the skewers and fruit too. _________________ Moderator Our judgments judge us, and nothing reveals us, exposes our weaknesses, more ingeniously than the attitude of pronouncing upon others... | Thanks MyScott. I shoved a chunk of butternut squash into my container. I may never get it out of there, but I think it will hold the skewers. I just finished cutting the bunny shapes out of pineapple and dipping them in chocolate and they're chilling in the frige. I made some flower shapes using green grapes as the centre and those look cute. I spritzed them with a lemon/water mix before I put them in the frige so I hope they stay fresh. I'll do the final assembly just before we leave to drive up to the farm. (Sarah, one of her oldest mares is due any minute so I hope we get an Easter present!) Next time I'll get some curly lettuce as a filler - what a good idea. (By the way, my live-in bad boy, Jake, has been banned from the farm - he has no horse sense at all - where oh where did we go wrong? Lol) _________________ If you act the way you'd like to be, you'll soon be the way you act - Leonard Cohen

| It turned out pretty well - I think I can do better next time though. We had a minor mishap during the transportation phase but nothing disastrous! One of my BILs took pictures so I'll see if there are any I like when he sends them to me. No babies yesterday. There are two mares in confinement and boy, are they big! Sarah, the oldest mare, has dropped many healthy, sturdy and beautiful foals but I think this may be her last one. Thoroughbreds have to have a live, witnessed "cover" every day of their ovulation cycle and my sister thinks the stallion's weight may be getting to be too much for her. (I know, too much information. Lol) The other mare is having her first foal and they're a bit nervous about her. I guess they never know how a first timer will react to labour. I went in and massaged their bellies for a while and they seemed to like that. When the foals move inside them, it looks like a scene from Alien - amazing. _________________ If you act the way you'd like to be, you'll soon be the way you act - Leonard Cohen
